How to make beaded napkin rings

Tutorial: How to make spiral beaded napkin rings - Beading for beginners

- I've been getting requests on how to make these napkin rings. So I've decided to start with probably the simplest design - the spiral napkin ring. These are fun to make since we'll be using a lot of beads. And it is up to your own imagination and creativity in deciding which type, and sizes of beads, and color or combination of colors to be used. I am using plastic beads this time to show how even the least expensive of beads can be made into a pretty stunning napkin ring.

Materials you will need:
Beads, Thick Wire (about 1.2mm gauge), Headpins (x2)

Tools:
Round-nose pliers, Flat-nose pliers, Tube shaped object

Step 1:
Wrap the thick wire around the tube several times to create a spiral. Remove the wire carefully without pulling it out of shape.

Step 2:
By using the round-nose pliers, bend one end of the wire into a small loop.

Step 3:
Insert or thread the beads on to the spiral wire.

Step 4:
Once all beads are threaded, make a similar loop at the end of the wire.

 Step 5:
(This is a tricky step and can be skipped. If this step is skipped, then just use the flat nose pliers to pinch the end loops down so they stay somewhat hidden from view.)
Time to dangle some beads on the end loops. To do this:
a) Slide a bead onto a headpin and with a round-nose pliers firmly grasping the wire just above the bead (this is called the neck), bend the wire down to a sharp angle
b) Slide the headpin through one of the loops of the napkin ring
c) Use the round-nose pliers to grasp firmly at wire just above the bead and hold the tail wire with a flat-nose pliers and create create a loop by wrapping it around tip of the round-nose pliers then slowly wrap the wire around the neck of the headpin several times
d) Cut the rest of the tail wire

And voila! Your very own simple but yet elegant little napkin ring. I hope this tutorial has been useful to you. Please drop your comments, I would love to hear from you :)

Here's some pictures of my 3.5yo son making his napkin rings while I was preparing this tutorial. Yup, it's that easy to make :)

Stella ~ Wine glass charms

Crystal Wine Glass Charms

I made these for a friend who was looking for some simple gifts to bring home to family and friends in the UK during the summer vacation. She specifically requested for small (yet meaningful) gifts as she did not want them to take up too much space in the luggage. I thought these were perfect (and so did she!).

Glass Beads Napkin Rings

I made these for a special friend in Sweden who was looking for something nice as a wedding gift. I had a lot of fun shopping for the beads for these, but decided finally to go with the blue. After all, who doesn't like blue?

Napkin Rings in the making

Charming Beadz @ Work

I've been procrastinating (which is something I'm pretty good at might I add)... with the kid being sick and a house full of guests this school holiday, I haven't been able to complete an order from an event organizing company. The company is responsible for holding a monthly ladies night which includes a fancy dinner and games for a group of regular clients. They've placed an order for some frangipani napkin rings specifically for these events. So today I decided to just get it over with, and I did.

Beaded Napkin Rings - Custom Designs

Custom Designs

- A friend of a friend who's working at the Irish Embassy here has requested a few design samples for a dinner the embassy is hosting in May. They wanted them in green and yellow.. the colors of the Irish flag I suppose.. These are what I've come up with. This is the first time Im using crystal beads for my napkin rings and I love it!
See them sparkle? Now you can add some pretty bling bling to your dinner table! I especially like the 3rd one, but I've had many people saying they prefer the first. Oh well :)

Material used: Combination of glass and crystal beads.

Dalia ~ Wedding Napkin Ring

Garden Wedding Napkin Rings

I've been so busy lately with the kid being sick and a house full of guests, and after my tutorial I did few weeks ago, I've decided to take a break from beading, or whatever it is that I do here.

But today I was out and found these little yellow fabric flowers and decided that this blog has been idle for long enough. So I've made one more for my garden wedding collection, ok I promise this will be the last and since it's the last, I've decided to include one of my favorite poems.

...I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where,
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way than this:
where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.
~ Pablo Neruda

These are perfect for any occasion especially outdoor in the sun. Be it a picnic, a lunch or even a garden wedding, these little beauties aren't only affordable, but they will surely liven the party up!
